Scope and content
Is good of Beaton to write to Gielgud on his father's death. It was long and drawn out and his mother and sister nursed his father for two years or more. Would like Beaton to see the Stratford "Much Ado About Nothing" as the scenic devices and brilliant colour might amuse him. None of the company are really bad which is unusual in a repertory company. Is planning to act there himself next year as he would like to work away from London and not play tragic parts eight times a week. Discusses the plays he would like to do. At Stratford, one has more time and an assured audience. Intends to take a house and settle down for a six month season. They have worked hard on "The Lady" and it has gone wonderfully. The dramatic side is weak but the wit and language are superb. It is charming to look at, thanks to Oliver.
