Scope and content
Thanks Beaton for his farewell note. Did not want to disturb Beaton with farewells when he was 'whirling so vivaciously in the arms of Anne Marie'. Is sure Beaton knows how his presence added pleasure to his holiday, especially with Truman to complete their threesome. Beaton left some bathing things and a suit at the hotel and Gielgud prevailed on Chips to bring them back for him. Discusses the Volpi Ball. Chips thought the Bastagni dinner was 'divinely chic' but Gielgud found it 'terrifyingly moribund'. His villa is fascinating, 'rather sad and a bit ghost-ridden, but full of character'. They are going to see Gordon Craig tomorrow. Hopes Beaton's trip to Paris is pleasant.
