Beaton's letter came and he was shocked to know that Beaton hadn't received a letter from him and one from Pavlik, both written before they left for Vermont. Was happy to get Beaton's letter on receipt of "The Overturned Lake" and was happy at the impression it made on him. There have been lots of new arrivals from Europe. All except Leonor who is stranded in Monte Carlo. It is difficult to get her over because she has two cats, two lovers and a mother, all of whom she wants to bring over. Likes Leonora Carrington. They were all rather dissappointed in Orson's film. A new film that Beaton must see is "The Maltese Falcon". His dream that Orson would revolutionize Hollywood did not come true, though "Citizen Kane" has had a 'refreshing effect, if only celluloid-deep'. Sent a copy of "Time Exposure" to Ruth. Loved the picture of him in it and was pleased sister was well represented. Sister has been in Hollywood since May with Goetz and daughter Shelley. Discusses the films she has been in. She says she is coming back to the stage and wants Ford to write a play for her. Thinks that the new ballets are awful. Discusses various names in ballet. Julien Levy has been touring the west with his paintings, but the gallery in New York has been closed. Pavlik's new painting should be finished by spring. The Dali ballet, "Labyrinth" was 'sordid in every way'. Edward James was left out of his uncle's will. Discusses books.
