Scope and content

Is glad to hear the cheerful news of Beaton's mother. Discusses Beaton's criticism of the line in 'People Are Talking About'. Does not see why he feels strongly about it. Would never have thought it was about Beaton if he hadn't told her he was having diction lessons. Wishes Beaton had not brought up the matter in 'this unpleasant way' for his own sake, as many people remember 'an unfortunate episode' in which Beaton was involved. Is not wise to 'stir up retaliation'. Discusses cover with the coloured telephones.
