Scope and content

Beaton is right to call him a pig, but there have been extenuating circumstances for him not writing. Is still working for the Institute of the Crippled and Disabled. Has written about 500 pages rather than the 120 that he was supposed to write. It has meant more money but has also exhausted him. Did not get out of New York once during the whole summer. Has also had a love affair with somebody who is invloved with someone else. Does not like or respect the other party, but his romantic friend does not seem able to end it. Has been thinking of going to Europe for six months. Would like to finish his novel. Asks what sort of projects Beaton has in mind. Hopes Beaton is not planning any big projects this winter, as he feels desperately in need of some time to relax. Would like to be of help while Beaton is in New York , but hopes he is not planning another book immediately. John is very busy and he does not see much of him. Read in the newspapers that John Gielgud has had some trouble. Thinks it was naughty of the police to let it get out to the newspapers. Admires Beaton's energy and enthusiasm. Has not written to Peter for over a year. Went to see "From here to Eternity". Thought that Deborah Kerr was marvelous. Discusses the other actors' performances. Mentions other films he has been to see and books that have recently come out. Will try to reply more quickly to Beaton's next letter.
