Scope and content

Thanks Beaton for his letter. Has been in Long Island for almost four weeks with John. Encloses ninety-eight pages of the fashion manuscript. Has worked hard on the chapters and hopes Beaton will find the results satisfactory. Has tried to collate their notes into a reasonably ordered whole. Is sure many additional ideas will come to Beaton. Gives suggestions on parts that Beaton may want to expand or change. Is eager to start on his own novel again. Asks about Beaton's plans for the summer. Has not sent him the original manuscript or notebooks as they would be expensive to send. John had to raise a lot of money to keep the gallery solvent for the summer as his backer is unable to help until autumn. They are very low on finances. Ruth Ford has married Zachary Scott. Charlie and Pavlik gave a big 4th July party and Hansen and John were not invited. Describes Easthampton. Their house is charming. Occasionally takes long walks with his botanical guide in hand. Is glad to hear that "Quadrille" is coming along well. John is having his portrait painted by Elaine de Kooning this morning.
