Scope and content

Heard that Beaton went on the Wrightsman's cruise after all. Is on Cecile's and would like to compare notes. His is boring because of the people, the language barrier and the fact that he has visited the island before. It is healthy though and he needed a rest, which he didn't get at Tony Richardson's in the South of France. Things got bad on Majorca. Realized that he was the object of some of the insanity. Got off the island as fast as he could, but not before he lost a good deal of money, most of his possessions and had his rented car smashed by Tony. They keep writing him tortured letters asking him to return and help them, but thinks he must protect himself. Will return to Majorca in September when he will know if he is to get the house. Still wants it, though feels he probably can't afford it and wonders if it is wise to be in such close proximity to those crazy people. After that his plans depend on Beaton and whether he still wants to do the tour of France. Discusses where he plans to go after leaving Cecile. Thinks Tony Richardson is fascinating. He is so intelligent that an aura of it surrounds him. His sadism is balanced by kindness and generosity. Describes Richardson's house. Vanessa was there at the same time and looked terrible. Asks if Beaton is interested in buying a white Mercedes from someone in Majorca. Is anxious to know when their tour is on.
