Scope and content
Was very upset when Beaton wrote a letter last year. Did not lie to him. Was unable to take action against the Sunday paper which published an account of the case. He did not lose it. Discusses the problem with Beryl. Was upset by a doctor who saw him after a blackout. Tells Beaton about his health problems and how his wife had him certified as insane. "My wife has turned me out and had my cat put in a home". Discusses the money he has been earning. Unfortunately he cannot finish the large canvas he was working on. The doctors say that he has never had any mental trouble and must attack the people responsible for having him confined. He and his wife had made an agreement. He has never used any violence on her since he caught her "misbehaving" last year. Asks Beaton for help. Wishes he had followed his advice before he married, but he was "passionately in love with that second-rate woman". Discusses some articles he has written. Will know more when he has seen the solicitor on Monday. If Beryl is in "financial muddles" it is because she spent £1000 on hotel bills. He gave up the studio to help her.
