Scope and content

Has just spent two weeks on Martha's vineyard. Was nice to get away from New York. Describes where he stayed. Has made enormous progress on his new play. There has been a flurry of activity on his other projects. Hopes Beaton gets a good cast assembled for "Landscape". Enid read the diaries and felt disappointed. She felt that details needed to be filled in about the people and events mentioned. She felt that an uneven amount of attention was given to certain subjects. She found other books that Beaton has written more enjoyable and better written. She hopes that the diaries would be illustrated. She found the stories amusing but also found some stretches of material that were not rewarding to her. Enid's comments coincide with Sandy's. However, Truman and Raymond Mortimer are very enthusiastic. Thinks that the diaries could do with filling in. Debates whether he should go to Greece. Would like to come to England to see the "Landscape" play, but would struggle financially. Would only let Beaton help with his fare if he could assist Beaton professionally. Would like to defer working on Volume II of Beaton's diaries for the next few weeks. Gives various reasons for this. Gives details of his intended work schedule in Greece. Hopes Beaton will have a chance to come to New York in August.
