Scope and content

So many people in New York miss Beaton's presence. "My Fair Lady" is going strong. Hopes it still makes money for Beaton. The Pinter play is a huge success. There are even fans waiting in the street by the stage door to salute 'us elderly gents'. Washington was 'rather a bind'. Toronto has become very 'fine and impressive' and is in striking contrast with the squalor of Rome and Paris. New York manages to keep its combination of sordidness and splendour. It is nice to be in New York with a success, which people seem to like in America, whereas at home there is always a bit of resentment and envy. Is going back to the National in the new year. Discusses various projects he is undertaking soon. Larry seems to have made a recovery and is working in films and television, but not theatre. Michael Redgrave is also supposed to be much better. Someone is sending him Beaton's new book which he is looking forward to. Discusses new plays and films. Was photographed by Eva Rubinstein the other day. She was charming and the pictures were striking.
