Scope and content
Is going on a summer tour to the South of Japan and will stay with a former student of his. Has been to numerous public dinners and notes the skill of the Japanese at after dinner speaking. Has seen an account regarding the 'Higher Movement' and hopes it has 'been castrated'. This has astonished the Japanese who have just formed a University for Women. Mentions that a Japanese woman is to be a student at Newnham. Believes that 'English girls are superior to Japanese in physical beauty - and that strange to say they are doing their best to abolish'.
