Scope and content

Beaton's book has arrived and it is delightful reading. Alfred went into hospital for some x-rays and they found an aneurysm. He has been operated on by a man called Bergen and it was a success. Alfred began to get better quickly but then began to get worse again. Nobody knows what it was, but they put him back on intravenous feeding and he got better again, though he has gout. Has been staying at the Ambassador East Hotel. Alfred's brother-in-law, George Bugbee, went in to see him in the mornings and she went in the afternoons. He is getting well and walks around the courtyard every day. He had a check up in Chicago and they found him in fine shape.
