Scope and content

Apologises for not replying to Beaton earlier. Had planned to answer him longhand but it would have taken too long. Discusses the uncertain political and industrial situation in the USA. It is just as well that Beaton did not invest his money as the stocks have declined severely in the last three months. Has instructed their treasurer to pay Beaton $17, 000 a year instead of $15, 000 a year. Discusses Beaton's articles in "The Sketch" and their policy of exclusivity. Can understand Beaton's disappointment over the loss of Miss Bigger. Is pleased that Johnnie is making progress. Has heard about Beaton's amusing parties at Ashcombe. Is sorry not to be there. Discusses how time flies so quickly. Is "getting out my winter overcoat and making out my list of Christmas presents!".
