Scope and content

Typescript copy of letter, not signed, from R.A. Lyttleton to W.V.D. Hodge

Reply to 15/7/8. Is sorry that Hodge did not consult with him before sending the letter to the Minister, as he has been seriously misinformed. Lyttleton has not urged the stopping of the Isaac Newton Telescope, but only consideration of the question of the best siting. Numbered 9 by FH

Typescript copy of letter, not signed [from R.A. Lyttleton] to Lord Hailsham

His position has been misrepresented by Hodge: only wishes that the site of the Isaac Newton Telescope should be reconsidered. Thinks that astronomers are afraid to complain about the site less they end up with no telescope at all. Can imagine that if the telescope is erected in Sussex, a future Astronomer Royal might well want it moved to a better site. Numbered 10 by FH
