Scope and content

States that the Matzana enquiry has ended and does not hold out much hope as to the outcome. Feels sure that 'Sir GW [Garnet Wolesey] will do all he possibly can to prevent any proper notice being taken of the transaction which reflects such discredit on Mr T Shepstone, as well as his brother.' Discusses the failure of a subscription list which was to divert church contributions to the Natal Diocese. Believes that he may retire on a pension if no further funds are forthcoming, but would not return to England.
