Related units of description

Although the original copy of the letter cannot be found, another letter from Browne to Jenkin, dated 26th April, 1722, and concerning the College's dispute with the Salter's Company, is printed in full in The Eagle XXXIII (Lent Term, 1912), p.p.134-135.

Notes area

Note

William Robson, himself a Salter, bequeathed a tenement in Fleet Street to the Salters' Company on the agreement that the Company should pay an annual sum of £10 to St. John's College in order to support two exhibitions. The exhibitioners would be preferably the sons of less wealthy relatives of Company members. The source of the dispute between the College and the Company as discussed in Browne's letter appears to concern the right of the Company to nominate exhibitioners to the College. See The Eagle XXXIII (Lent Term, 1912), p.135.
