Indenture whereby Richard Clayton, Master, and the Fellows and Scholars of St John's lease to Ventris Maundle of New Windsor, bricklayer, the messuage and lands delimited as in (former ref.) D16.43 above, reserving the wood to the College, for 20 years from the date of the indenture at a yearly rate of 13 shillings 4 pence, payable in the following form at Cambridge:
two shillings two and a half pence in money, one bushel of wheat and two pecks of malt. It is is a month in arrears, the indenture is void. The lessee shall do the repairs to the house and hedges etc., and shall have hedgebote and firebote without making 'strippe or waste'. He shall pay all quitrents etc. and bring two couple of capons when he pays his rent, or twelve pence for each capon instead. He may not sublet and binds himself with one surety in twenty marks.
