Scope and content

Was shocked to hear of the tragedy that has overtaken Beaton's family. Has had a cable from Beaton suggesting that he is sailing to America on the tenth. Gives details of the cable that has been sent to him. As they have so many foreign artists working for them at the moment, feels that if Beaton came to America now, they would be unable to use everything that he produced. They also have quite a lot of Beaton's work that they have not published yet. Perhaps Beaton will want to come anyway as he can always do private sittings. If Beaton does decide to come he shall be welcome. The French artists begin to go home in the spring, so there will be more work then. Discusses the use of colour in "Vogue". Describes what kind of thing has been successful and what has not been so well received. Would like Beaton to develop his colour work, but thinks it would be a mistake to publish anything before it is right. Mentions Elsa Maxwell's "Scavenger Hunt". Daisy Fellowes has made a 'damn fool impression upon people'.
