Item 5 - Photocopy of typescript letter, signed, from R.F. Holmes (General Board of the Faculties) to R.M. Needham and A.D.I. Nicol

Enclosed are copies (1 present) of a letter from Dr. W.L. Francis of the Science Research Council to the Vice-Chancellor detailing an offer of two fifths of the recurrent costs of the Institute of Theoretical Astronomy (not exceeding £375,000 in the period ending 31 Jul. 1972), on the condition that the Wolfson Foundation pay the building costs, the Nuffield Foundation pay two fifths of the recurrent costs, and the University pay one fifth of the recurrent costs. The General Board have agreed in principle to accept this offer; the letter should be circulated to the Faculty Board of Mathematics and the Council of the School of the Physical Sciences, and comments submitted to the General Board by 15 July.
