Passport, dated 22 March 1895, issued by the UK Foreign Office and signed by Samuel Butler, bearing stamps of the Turkish and Greek Consulates in London. Leather passport holder, made by W.J. Adams & Sons of Fleet Street, London, embossed 'SAMUEL BUTLER' in gold lettering, with pages for notes, and a small pencil tucked inside; nine pages bear MS notes by Butler, recording the European locations he visited between 24 April and 9 June [1900] (Taormina, Acireale, Syracuse, Malta, Catania, Palermo, Calathia, Calatafimi, Trapani, Rome, Siena, Genoa, S. Pietro, Casale, Bellinzona, Basle).
