Scope and content
Envies Beaton for being in the country during Christmas. Greta (Garbo) has gone to Sweden. Newspapers say she has left America permanently and is intending to sell her flat. John Gunther says that Greta will come back. Discusses where Greta will stay. Feels lonely now that Greta has left New York, even though they do not see each other these days. Asks Beaton to let her know if he has any news of her. Would like to come to London but cannot leave Linda and is 'broke'. Asks Beaton if he is returning to New York. Has been to an exposition of Miles White. Elizabeth Bergher is out of the play "First-Love". Recommends the book "Promise After Dawn" which the play is based on. Enquires after Beaton's mother. Hopes that seeing her age is not too depressing. Feels that it would be wise to die at the age of 45. Wishes Beaton a happy christmas.
