Scope and content
Beaton's messages are a joy. Discusses doctors. Mrs Payson told him her "formidable old mum" had a stroke and "if she hadn't chased the doctors out of the door they would have dun [sic] her in". Has read that Beaton is to be the patron of a local Jane Austen festival. It is the Bicentennial weekend and everyone else has fled New York. Is tired of working at home. Describes the funeral of John McKendrey who recently died. "No cause was given except that somewhere along the line he did jump out of a window wishing to fly". Will be around to see Beaton "this fall when the pound is at zero".
