Scope and content

There is an "acute shortage" of notepaper in the flat although he finally has his furniture and other items around him. The flat is high up and a scent of fish from the East River floats in. Is happy although finding it hard waiting for the book to be published. Has been thinking about a new book about "Pa and myself", and another about the publishing business. Feels that with success will come a degree of independence and then he may be able to return to London. Beaton's garden must be beautiful. He will be able to sit out in the evening "with a few choice friends". His fashion retrospective at the V & A is appearing in the New York papers. His book will be launched in October. Hopes that he will be in London to promote it. Discusses his flat and the desire for a job. Is so used to working in New York that it would be very hard to get going again in London. Asks to be remembered to Roy and Eileen.
