Scope and content

It was a joy to hear from Beaton. Misses their visits especially as life in New York is so "hap-hazard". Saw Gore Vidal's "Day in the Life of Richard Nixon", which she found a bore. Bemoans the fact that most new books are so badly written. It is better to be poor as there is nothing that tempts one to buy. The Garbo novel is awful and she doesn't want to read Bea's book, though it has made the bestseller lists. Bea is in an "advanced stage of senility" and got lost one day and was found in the basement. Updates him with gossip about their friends. Thinks they have "outlived all the fun".
