Scope and content

Thanks her for Christmas wire; wants here to break away whenever there's a 'possible possibility' so that they can all see her again 'before we're much older' [underlined in red biro]; doubts his going out there as most stars come to New York where they can be photographed. Just back from the desert and Tunis 'all so full of local colour that I felt I'd never been so far abroad before except when I went to see Chu Chin Chow'; England dark and gloomy after so much sun, 'though that may be that I'm still rather under the influence of a sad Christmas at home with my family.' Soon sailing for New York, Waldorf Astoria again. Asks her to write if she has time and energy. 'Ray Goetz is here doing a show with Gilbert and Cole and we talk a lot of you.'

[remainder as postscript]

Gilbert, Kitty, Marge. Peter has given him a car and dressing case 'which makes me very happy but he still has me on the end of a piece of string. It's extraordinary what a violent habit that has been-- and I feel almost as strongly as I ever did.'

Michael Rosenauer. Ruth can't make up her mind whether to divorce Paul or not.

Wishes Lil wouldn't tart herself up so much; makeup appalling and she looks 90 in the pictures. Asks after Adrian, Garbo. Does she ever have 'hair letdowns' with Mercedes? 'All this news is meat and drink to me....' Is Zoe reconciled with Joby?
