Note
The Wine Policy Sub-Committee was created in 1979 following the re-structure of the existing Wine Committee and the creation of the role of Secretary for the purpose of ordering wine (this duty was previously fulfilled by the Steward). In a proposal put to the College Council, it was suggested that the Wine Policy Sub-Committee should consist of the Chairman of the Wine Committee, the Secretary, the Steward, the Senior Bursar, and one other member of the Wine Committee. The duties of the Sub-Committee were to advise the Secretary on the purchase of wines; to decide which wines should be made available for consumption; to determine matters of policy; and, where necessary, advise the Steward on the management of the cellar. From this point onward, the Sub-Committee held greater executive power, while the Wine Committee maintained an advisory role and a basis of opinion which the Sub-Committee could draw upon.
