Note

Richard Raynes, appointed Fellow of St. John's in 1664 (by mandate), bequeathed a benefaction of £30 per annum to the College for the use of scholar exhibitions, following his death in 1710. However, the money was only to be paid in the event that his son, Henry, had no children. The extract from the will of Henry Raines, approved after his death in 1734, recites his father's bequests for charitable purposes, and states that the beneficiaries of the bequest are to be recommended by the Master to the trustees.
