Bequeathed properties in St. Sepulchre’s parish, Cambridge (67-70 Bridge Street) to James Wood, Master of the College. The residue of his estate he bequeathed directly to the College for various uses: 1) £200 a yr. to be paid to the Master if he were at the time Rector of Freshwater; otherwise the sum to be invested and accumulate and then to be paid with interest to the Master being Rector; 2) exhibitions (number at the discretion of the College) to be founded, by preference for students born in Forensfell in Hawkshead and Colton parishes, Lancashire (near his birthplace), who are making satisfactory progress in literature; 3) his bequest to be used to fund inspection of teaching and buildings at Sedbergh, Pocklington, Rivington and Hawkshead schools
