Note
Riplingham's death is spoken of as recent: he was dead by July 1519. However, according to Dr Richard Rex, Darington left SJC in 1521. He is certainly found in Louvain in 1522, and his letters to Henry Gold show that he had no intention of returning to the college. However, he continued to draw his stipend for a while, at least. A reference in a letter to Gold indicates that he is aware he is annoying Metcalfe through insisting on his rights - and this probably means insisting on getting every last penny of his stipend, commons, etc.
See Metcalfe's annual accounts (1520-1522) p. 35, entry for 21 November 1522 records £3 6s 8d paid to Darington for commons, stipend and livery for the whole year ended August. It may even be paid to Darington's 'factor', but that word is difficult to make out. And Darington is still 'on the books' in the 1522-23 valuation of the University (held at The National Archives in Kew, London).
However, he clearly never returned to Cambridge, as by 1524 he had a prebend in Coventry.
