Note

See SJAR/1/1/1/2/2/3/8 which mentions Roger Ashe and Watson, who was made fellow of King's Hall 1520-1521. If this is from John Smith it was written by an amanuensis whose hand is similar to the written up accounts for Henry Hornby (executor to Lady Margaret Beaufort) 1509-1516. It is unlike the signed hand for SJAR/1/1/1/2/2/3/4.

The following applies to another John Watson: There seems to be conclusive proof that John Watson was not the Master of Christ's until at least 1522. In Letters and Papers Henry VIII, Addenda Vol 1. Part 1 (no 357, page 107) there is aBook of the View, Valuation, and Tax of the University of Cambridge'. At the head of the Christ's College list is Thomas Tompson (Thomson). The only John Watson at Christ's is listed among the junior scholars. Moreover, the third name in the list for King's Hall, entitled a Sacrae Theologiae Professor, is John Watson - surely our man. It became clear after examining the Grace books that the document dates from the academic year 1522-23' (ex inf. Richard Rex Trinity College).
