Concerning the structure of the management of the proposed Institute. FH's proposal of a Board of Trustees numbering about 6 has been rejected in favour of a committee of 13 or 15, proposed by the Sub-Committee of the General Board. In November, a compromise position was reached, but this compromise was not followed. Objects to the resolution to include a member of DAMTP on the Executive Committee of the Institute. FH was consulted only once about these matters (on 1 Nov.). On his return from the United States he found "the whole project, the whole of fifteen months' effort, had been destroyed in one morning by a group of men who were incapable on understanding that one cannot have junior people appointing senior people". FH now exercises his option of withdrawal. Two letters (perhaps 8/2/23 and 8/2/25) to the Vice-Chancellor enclosed. See also 9/8/8, 8/19/3 and 8/2/35.
