Scope and content

Thanks Beaton for his book on the Middle East. Is grateful that Beaton sends books, as it is impossible to get them in Cairo. Thinks the book is good and very interesting. Is probably going to Tehran again soon. Has gotten to know Syria and Lebanon quite well. Noel Coward is there at the moment trying to cheer people up. He is going to Baghdad this week. Still goes to the 9th General Hospital and thinks that the men there are cheering up. Dick had a successful month in London. Cairo gets more interesting and more safe. Has seen a lot of interesting people passing through, including a group of American senators. They are anxious that the Senate should know 'enough of the world to vote more intelligently than after the last war'.
