Scope and content
Is answering Beaton's letter today so that he can give an account of the first night of the play ("Heartbreak House"). Although they have had a very successful tour, the play was not very well received last night. The papers are 'very luke-warm'. The audience liked Beaton's production and the actors and John's work. The audience did not like the play's 'lack of shape'. Everything Beaton contributed was very successful. Fears that Linklater will be upset. Sybil Colefax and Molly Williams loved the evening. Thanks Beaton for his contributions and he has been happy working with him. Envies Beaton having such a wonderful experience (in India). Is grateful for all the help that Maud Nelson has given in Beaton's absence. Hopes that Beaton will write another book to record his trip.
