Scope and content

Asks Beaton's forgiveness for not having replied to his letter earlier. Has been examining the Halifax archives for a book he is writing. Felt it was kind of Beaton to write to him about his review of Beaton's book. Discusses the review. Feels that Beaton did not do himself full justice. Would like to see Beaton's story in the form of a straightforward biography rather than as a series of diaries. States that this 'of course, is a matter of taste'. Was interested in the way that Beaton established his career and felt that this was a little difficult to discern in the book. Felt that it had 'many happy and brilliant flashes' and is sure that it will be a success. Would like to see Beaton again. Will get in touch next time he is in London.
