Scope and content
Has no pretext for writing to Beaton except that last night he began to think about Beaton's going away and it has been in his head all morning. Had been intermittently worried about it for months but one always presumes anything horrid will not happen. Wishes he could tell Beaton how much he loves him and what a "black yawning gap" will be made in his life. This is an egotistic point of view when the journey has such possibilities of "curious novelty and excitement". Will try to arrange a time this week with Maud. "The Constant Couple" was excellent. Apologises for this "idiotic note".
