Scope and content

Is sorry that Barbara was not able to come to Australia for the I.A.U. Symposium, and wonders if she will ever make it there. Is sorry to hear that Barbara's mother is 'so ill'. Enjoyed the coverage of the royal wedding [of Princess Anne to Mark Phillips]. Eddy had a 'very severe heart attack' during the year; Ruth played it down, but Letty heard the details from Shirley Cohen at Caltech. It was sad to learn that Tommy Lauritson and Doris DuBridge had died. Phyl Barnes has been 'terribly ill too for so long' and doesn't think that 'they even know what ails her'. But they are in Denmark for a year 'so she must be getting better'. John has been made Vice president at the IAU, so they will be making some trips overseas. Wonders how the Hoyles will cope in 'such a big house and in such a cold part [of the country]'. Details her Christmas plans.
