Scope and content

Includes typescript and manuscript letters to Eileen Hose directly, or on behalf of Beaton, from miscellaneous correspondents, including the American writer, Waldemar Hansen; the fashion advertising and public relations manager, Eleanor Lambert (1903-2003); Patrick O'Higgins, assistant to the American business magnate, Helena Rubinstein (1872-1965); and the Royal Photographic Society. Also includes a letter from Beaton to 'George', dated January 1959; an annotated loose-leaf memo slip, with the typescript letterhead of George E. Vigouroux, Jr. (Artistic Director of Palm Beach Galleries, Florida, from 1960); and two undated typescript newspaper clippings. The first clipping, an article written by Francis D. Perkins c.1957, is titled: "Love Story Written for Opera 'Vanessa'" and provides an overview of Samuel Barber's new four-act opera ahead of its premiere at the New York Metropolitan Opera in January 1958. The second clipping comprises a short report of a vernissage of Beaton's theatre sketches at the Sagittarius Gallery, New York.
