Scope and content
Expresses surprise and pleasure at having received Beaton's letter. Has missed Beaton. Diana was staying when the letter came. Diana was also surprised. Showed the letter to Cuthbert, who revealed that he had written to Beaton to tell him how much Bagnold missed him. Has been carrying the letter around. Feels that no play of hers will succeed. The critics have a view of her as an 'opener of charity fetes' that will not change. They see her as an imposter. Is going to Oxford next. Thought she would die before hearing from Beaton again. Praises Beaton.
