Parsons is relieved that his arbitration has been settled, and expresses optimism in producing an improved compound steam turbine that will not fall within the old patents, notes improvement in their glass mirrors, and that Sir J. Douglas wants them to manufacture side lights for ships. There is a small sketch.

Regarding an election in which the candidates were Kennedy, Sir William White and Unwin. P expresses his surprise that Kennedy received the most votes and gives his opinion of each candidate.

P will subscribe something but would like to know what others will do. P has an urgent appeal to subscribe to a new chair in engineering. P admires Rutherford and thinks he would be 'the right man in the right place at the Cavendish Laboratory'.

He praises the Turbinia's success and sees a great future for Parsons if he applies 'his Turbine to commercial vessels of ordinary sizes'. Suggests if an order from a foreign government could be procured, the British government would be spurred into placing an order themselves.

P is sending 2 volumes compiled by the Lubrication Committee of the Advisory Council for Research. P talks about J.H. Michell. P is glad that the Engineering School will occupy a new site and discusses the naming of a chair for thermodynamics. P does not think the Lubrication Committee has advanced much knowledge.
