Typescript letter signed to Beaton, from Sussex

Has been inspired to new creativity by the news that through Beaton's action "Vogue" has accepted HJ. Thanks Beaton and hopes to grow as a writer from this first successful essay. Jimmy Smith visited and gave news that Oggie was enjoying herself. Jimmy had been to see the new Fidelio at Covent Garden and thought the singer was inadequate and the scenery by Rolf Gerard was no 'whizz at all'. Praises "School for Scandal" and Beaton's work on it. Admires Godfrey Winn. Has been reading the notices of Ruth's play with regret. Discusses Terry Alexander and the criticisms made of his play.

Typescript letter signed to Beaton, from Stratford-upon-Avon

Was glad to get the message from Alan Tagg that Beaton was happy with the re-arrangements. The aim of the new stage is to minimise the necessity for scenery so that the design can be simple. Though he loved what Beaton did first, it seemed too complicated. Discusses the style of the play. Is not able to visit Beaton in Salisbury on Sunday. The television film they are shooting is proving hectic. Feels he must rest on Sunday before beginning the Mortimer play on Monday morning. Will be available any evening in London from next Monday.

Typescript letter signed to Beaton, from St Moritz

Thanks Beaton for his cable and letter. Is going to be doing "The Sun Also Rises" until the beginning of June. Does not think they have found a real casting solution yet. Will try and make himself available for fall. Is glad Beaton had a good comment about the latest re-write. Tells Beaton how to reach him.
