Scope and content
Concerning FH's change of attitude to the plans for the Institute of Theoretical Astronomy since his last letter to the Vice Chancellor (of 20 Jan.), caused by his learning that the Dec. resolutions of the Council of the School of Physical Sciences have been accepted by the General Board. Hoyle feels that he has been presented on his return from America with a fait accompli, and that he is being expected to accept a bad compromise because explicit administrative steps have been taken. He is now convinced that Cambridge is not the right place to set up this Institute. Draft of 8/2/37. See also 8/2/34, 8/2/25, and 8/2/36.
