Scope and content

Asks Beaton to come and see him soon. Loves his sense of humour and gaiety. Had to have shock treatment last autumn for "melancholy". Feels a little fun with Beaton would help him to recover. Is coming to London tomorrow for some days. It was such heaven being with Beaton yesterday. Feels "a little forgotten about". Asks if Beaton can help him. Does he think he needs a "sun-holiday"? His doctor said that he only needed two things: "pleasure and companionship". Has had to take sedatives for the past six months. Is telling him these things in confidence because physically he is "very well indeed". Is it true that there is a lot of depression about? Is it England? He loves the tropics of the south but "one needs a companion". Just writing to Beaton is cheering him up. Has got to see his dentist all this week. May still go to the USA. Having a flat in New York would be exciting, but "one's feelings about Americans varies a lot".
