Scope and content

Asks Beaton's forgiveness for not writing before. Wondered how he was as she knew he was not quite right when he left. Has thought and thought and has been worried and miserable because though her feelings have deepened her mind remains unchanged. If she can't say yes what else can she say but no. Has a "deep instinctive feeling" in her heart that it wouldn't work. Goes to London tomorrow. If there is no letter from Beaton she will telephone Eileen for news. It must be the middle of the night by now. "My watch has stopped and I lie staring at this horrible page".
