Scope and content
Was miserable at not speaking to Beaton before she left. Her spirits slumped at Anne's house and she didn't ring until Thursday. Dashed to Paris that night and had a "grisly" weekend with Bertha, who will probably be kept in the military hospital until the holidays are over. It is lovely and quiet at the moment but there is "an influx of Westmorlands" next week and then Ireland on the 28th. Asks Beaton to write to her then. The ball in Tangier must have been extraordinary. There is not much summer left here. They are going to the Rotary in Bristol tonight. Peter Hall has received a "pretty good pasting" in the press. Christopher is being sweeter than ever.
