Scope and content
This is a "profound & extensive apology" for arriving too late to dine with Beaton the other night. Discusses how working on the flat and the process of dressing have made her late. Tries to warn people about this. Reminisces about the evening. "I felt very much like Dante coming into the first circle". The conversation was so diverting and irresistible that the "outrageous guests" stayed until quarter to one. To punish herself she will "never pass your threshold beyond early lunch-time". Hopes Beaton is rested. Was glad not to miss the show at the V & A. The house she is in is the "only rococo house without any charm whatsoever". Discusses the problems with it.
