Scope and content

Was glad to get new of Beaton. He sounds rushed and busy. Can understand how America appreciates the 'beauty and sensitiveness' of his art. Was glad to hear that Beaton saw a good production of "Julius Caesar". Liked "Anna Karenina". The theatres have been producing plays to commemorate the anniversary of the Revolution. Has been to see them and they are 'monotonous'. Met Stewart Chaney and liked him very much. Discusses Chaney. He is talented but works under a 'cloud of trepidation-the axe may fall any day'. Jairov is 'practically extinct too' and has little power in his theatre. Discusses the political situation. Every day they hear dreadful tales. Mentions seeing Abdy. Went to Budapest this autumn and loved it. Will go again in the spring. Discusses Christmas card.
