Scope and content
Is sorry that Beaton is involved with ungenial surroundings and people. Liza is going to go with him in November to look at suitable objects for the V&A. Liza has been having a harrowing time as Vic (?) has died of kidney cancer. Is panicking about the exhibition in New York as he seems to have nothing new to show. Is awaiting a boat to take him to Tory Island for a month's work. Elizabeth Bowen has been to stay. Discusses other visitors. Found Edinburgh a bore this year. Thought the Indian music unsuitable for the Freemasons Hall. Hated the Modigliani exhibition. Martha Graham and her troupe and the Stuttgart ballet were the only things to enthuse him in a bad year. Is going to go back to London in November for a month to get ready for the exhibition in New York. Sita Kapurthala (?) came to visit with her son, who is intent on going to Cambridge.
