Thanks Beaton for the charming letter of sympathy. The tokens of love and admiration felt for Desmond by his family and friends are the only things that can help at this time. The loss of his companionship is something for which nothing can ever atone. Beaton wrote him a very sweet letter which he and John read to him the day before he died. Although he was terribly weak he kept up his cheerfulness and interest. He would have been happy to know how much he was loved. Knows that Beaton will mourn him and miss him terribly.
