Scope and content
Congratulates Bezzant on his appointment at Liverpool Cathedral. B will find large section of their clergy sick at heart. The magnificent work of Bishop Chavasse being undermined by modernism. In consequence many scarcely know what they believe and their work suffers. Modernism's 2 primary negations, as to human sin and divine atonement, seem to render impossible moral honesty or peace with God. Cannot understand why when there is so little faith on Earth modernists should seem eager to impair it. It is because J believes that B is coming to a much more constructive position theologically that he thinks B will be so great a help to them - to lead them from perplexity to surer faith.
