Scope and content

The book on Cambridge has been cancelled. Gives thanks for the offer of £20 but turns it down. Philosphically discusses commercialism and 'modern machine-run society' and is scathing about both. Gives a critique of Samul Butler's novel 'Erewhon' and compares it unfavourably with William Morris' 'News from Nowhere'. Asks after HG's research and consoles him in his efforts to gain a Fellowship. Discusses the pros and cons of science. Gives news of his sister's impending marriage, and mentions that she still speaks affectionately of HG.
